Staff/Payroll Accountant (Full Time)

Newcastle Systems is an innovator of workplace mobility solutions for many of the world's leading retail and operations companies. This position reports to the Controller and works with purchasing and operations.

Responsibilities but not limited to:

Process bi-weekly payrolls that include salary changes, benefit deductions, garnishments.

401(k) plan remittance & reporting

Onboarding / Offboarding employees in payroll system

Respond to staff questions related to payroll and benefits and process changes in a timely manner.

Research and resolve problems associated with payroll, tax, and benefits.

Prepare payroll journal entries for entry into the General Ledger.

Perform general Accounts Payable activities, including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of ledger accounts.

Prepares, records, analyzes, and reports accounting transactions and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.

Oversee sales tax filings prepared and filed by 3rd party. Monitoring we are in “good standing” in all states. Watching thresholds & helping setup new states with economic nexus.

Special projects as requested by Controller; involves a wide range of activities all geared towards improving current processes, writing procedures, organizing current accounting structures, and reconciling various general ledger account on the balance sheet and income statement.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Associates/Bachelors – Field of Study: Finance/Accounting

3-5 years Payroll/Accounting experience a must have.

AP & Payroll Processing experience a must have.

Knowledge of payroll principles and best practices.

Knowledge of Federal, State & Local employment tax laws.

Experience with working under strict deadlines and delivering payrolls with a high degree of accuracy.

Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Impeccable judgment, discretion, and integrity.

Initiative-taking and able to complete tasks without extensive supervision.

Sales Tax / Economic Nexus experience a plus.

Manufacturing or Non-Service Industry experience a plus including purchase order processes.

Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel

ADP Total Source experience a big plus or a similar platform with strong payroll understanding/background.

Epicor & Avalara Software experience a plus.
