Job Description

Wood Mackenzie are an industry-leading data analytics company that provides analysis and insight on the world’s natural resources with offices all around the globe. The team are working on a next generation, data analysis & visualization platform utilized by our customer to drive billion-dollar decisions.

Your role will be within our Product Division where you will help with the design, development and maintenance of our new market intelligence modeling platform which combines proprietary and publicly available market data with analyst insight to provide energy forecasts to our customers

In this role, you will work with product management and subject matter experts to define the features and functionality this platform and the ancillary models used to support the platform.

This role would suit someone who aspires to progress into a People management role.

About the role:

You will bring your experience developing commercial applications in a fast-paced, agile environment. Application development experience should include working on distributed architectures, highly configurable software designs, and applications that emphasize ease of use.

Your input will include identifying potential system enhancements and process improvements, participating in the specification, testing and implementation of the products, and offering suggestions for tools and approaches that will yield world-class products.

Skillset:

  • 4 year Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years development experience in a commercial software environment
  • Experience within any of the following;
    • Python
    • NodeJS
    • C#
    • Typescript
  • An understanding of solid object-oriented design principles, relational databases, and distributed software design.
  • Expertise with SQL syntax, especially in environments that use various database engines – including SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Neo4
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate a strong initiative to achieve in a highly competitive environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with the design and implementation of creative software solutions
  • Knowledge of modern enterprise and cloud architectures (e.g. microservices, serverless, event driven, reactive) and containerization methodologies
  • Comfortable with managing technical debt and working with legacy codebases
  • Hands on experience with application optimisation, scaling and security. Particularly caching strategies, and large-scale distributed computing
  • Knowledge of continuous delivery and approaches to continuous integration

Delivery:

  • Proactively identify problems with requirements and communicates these issues early to help course-correct
  • Assist in troubleshooting and support efforts for existing systems and applications, focused on improving our existing systems and applications
  • Manage your own time, and work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Promote shared ownership of code though code reviews, standards and documentation
  • Participate in the definition and implementation of the engineering team roadmap.
  • Holding yourself to the highest of professional and ethical standards and expecting the same of co-workers.

Qualifications

Knowledge of current software development technologies, techniques, and processes. This includes familiarity with agile software development and a "ship early, ship often" mindset
Previous experience with applications that use publish-subscribe messaging and interact with enterprise messaging systems, including TIBCO and Kafka.
Understanding of modeling techniques, especially neural networks
