Chilmark Tavern, a well-established seasonal restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard is seeking an Assistant General Manager for our 2024 season, and beyond. We are a team-oriented crew who cares about great service and great food. We serve high quality, local-when-possible ingredients in an upscale casual and fun setting. The Assistant General Manager will be responsible for assisting the owner in daily front of the house duties, along with other duties outlined below. The AGM is a customer facing position who will work nightly with guests and staff to ensure a smooth-running operation. Our season runs mid-May through September, and we are looking for someone who is available full time for our full season.

The right candidate has previous experience in mid to high-end high-volume restaurants and a great understanding of how to provide exceptional hospitality. We are looking for someone who has strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, passion for customer service, the ability to manage others with respect and kindness, the ability to work calmly under pressure, the ability to be flexible, trustworthiness, and most importantly has a fun personality with a good sense of humor.

Main duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

Working with Toast POS back and front end;

Working with staff to maintain a clean and organized dining room/service station;

Setup and breakdown of the dining room to accommodate various floor plans;

Communicate with the kitchen throughout service to ensure optimal customer and staff experience;

Managing reservations – answering phones and tracking online bookings;

Bussing tables/resetting tables when needed;

Taking to-go orders over the phone and helping pack and send orders out;

Helping servers with POS errors;

Managing guest relations;

Managing staff relations;

Problem solving;

Inventories of bar/dining room supplies;

Light administrative duties;

This is not an exhaustive list, there may be other duties at various times.

Dates are from @ May 15 to September 30

Hours are @ 2pm – 11:30 pm five nights per week, with two days off in a row

Housing is available for the right candidate

Pay: Based on Experience, but very competitive.
