We need help with repairs and maintenance for several houses in Newton, and Cambridge.
Basic carpentry, repair, painting skills and hand tools are essential. A truck is very helpful.
You must be easy going, honest, reliable and likable. My tenants need to trust you and so do we.
You must be able bodied, capable of helping to carry a sheet of plywood, 5 gallons of paint, and construction components sold at Home Depot. This jobs requires more skill, judgment, attention and planning than muscle, but significant disabilities would disqualify you.
We are all retired and do this part time, for extra income and to be useful and appreciated (people used to do that). It also gets us out and keeps us active. There is some flexibility of scheduling, when it is not an emergency.
We will consider any age, but retirees with a pension that don’t need a steady income, and don’t want a full time grind, seem happiest with this arrangement. You will be working as a subcontractor, paying your own taxes etc. (cheap for a retiree if you stay under the excluded income limit).
We pay promptly and in full with no deductions from your pay. A repair man who takes on side jobs and is there when we need him, would also work well.
