Job Description

COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT, Koch Institute (KI) for Integrative Cancer Research (https://ki.mit.edu/) -External Relations Group, to support the creation and distribution of written, visual, and multimedia content about cancer research at MIT for diverse audiences, including alumni, donors, biotech/pharma, the general public, and MIT and KI community members. Responsibilities include writing, editing, and posting short-form content for KI newsletter, website, and digital displays; producing engaging social media posts supporting KI priorities/programs on outlets including X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube; maintaining production calendars for newsletter, event emails, social media, and digital displays; tracking analytics for social media, newsletter, and websites and assisting with regular reporting; sourcing images and video for communications activities and maintaining KI’s design/photo/video assets; website maintenance; providing editing support for internal/external communications, including offering feedback on content organization and formatting, style, syntax, and grammar; monitoring news feeds and compiling information; helping coordinate with vendors on producing communications materials and assisting with the organization of photo and film shoots; and performing other duties as assigned. Job RequirementsREQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; five years’ communication and/or administrative experience; excellent writing, editing, and prooing skills; keen attention to detail; strong analytical, time-management, and organizational skills; ability to prioritize competing demands and meet tight deadlines and work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently; knowledge of a range of communications platforms; proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, web content management systems, email marketing tools, and Microsoft Office; and ability to learn new tools as needed. PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree in a related field; interest in the life sciences, biomedical engineering, or cancer; and experience with print/digital design, photography, or video production and editing.
