One of my client companies is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer for their plant south of Detroit, MI. This facility has 8 Maintenance Techs. and 7 Janitors. The individual hired for this position will be the Chief Engineer next year (March- May time period). This job description is for the CE position but it provides a good idea of the position to start as an Assistant Chief Engineer. Base salary is $100-110K plus other perks and relocation assistance. Standard benefits package. The plant is 100,000 sq. feet, is a service company, and will be long days plus weekends. Class 1-A Boilers License and maintenance electrical license are desirable - at least 5 year of experience.
Major Goals:
Directs and coordinates activities of maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment, and in maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utility systems of the facility. Performs the following duties personally or through subordinates. This facility has 8 Maintenance Techs. and 7 Janitors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Reviews job orders to determine work priorities. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
· Coordinates activities of workers fabricating, modifying or repairing machines, tools, or equipment.
· Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
· Develops preventive maintenance program in utilizing equipment manufacturer's recommendations.
· Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
· Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
· Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor, materials, equipment, and utilities.
· Reviews new projects and discusses equipment needs and modifications with management to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
· Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.
· Directs training and orientation of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
· Directs ongoing training program to keep maintenance employee’s knowledge current with technology advances.
· Prepares department budget and monitors expenditure of funds in budget.
· Directs janitorial activities to ensure plant cleanliness
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Directly supervises 6-8 employees in the maintenance department, and 7 janitors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Other duties may be assigned.
3. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, coworkers and subordinates.
4. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
5. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
6. Class 1-A Boilers License and maintenance electrical license are desirable.

8. Responsible for meeting all federal, state, and local inspection requirements.
9. Order all supplies, service, and equipment necessary to fulfill responsibilities with appropriate approval by the Operations Manager
10. Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment
11. Responsible for the maintenance programs within the plant. Perform preventive maintenance on machinery according to daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly maintenance schedules
12. Maintain an inventory of replacement parts within budget guidelines. Report deficiencies to the Operations Manager
13. Secure and control all maintenance tools, equipment and parts
14. Perform all other duties as assigned
