Job Description:This in a part-time, unpaid opportunity. The Youth Career Academy Specialist (Intern) will provide supportive services to high school aged youth who are in need of vocational training and academic and family support. This position will demonstrate excellent data keeping and document writing, have exceptional interpersonal communication; have high energy and enthusiasm, and have experience with group facilitation, collaboration with partnering agencies, development of treatment plans, and experience with transition planning. This staff will reflect Peckham’s values and vision in every day work. This position will attend numerous team meetings (within Peckham and in the community) and be responsible for a small caseload. This position will assist youth in identifying an appropriate education plan (GED, or re-enroll in college, or credit recovery) and assisting with vocational training. This position is responsible for helping participants develop their individualized career development plan. This position will involve regular contact with local school districts.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Help onboard and orient new students to the Youth Career Academy – Genesee.
Collaborate with partnering agencies and represent Peckham and the YCA program.
Monitor the status and progress of caseload’s individualized career development plan.
Write detailed plans, observation notes, interim reports, and transitional reports - Daily
Develop and conduct regular systematic socialization, incentive trips, vocational exploration trips and talent tours- As Needed
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and facilitate ongoing groups related to the cognitive behavioral model.
Coordinate programming for at-risk students to achieve their vocational and academic goals
Supervise program activities and outings
Crisis intervention
Maintain safe and clean work environment
Assist in the training of people with disabilities
Refer students for appropriate evaluations using Peckham resources and community resources
Establish relationships with community resources related to vocational training opportunities, secondary education, and specialized training.
Create positive relationship with referral sources (7th Judicial Circuit Court)
Support participants as they make transitions using pro-social and strength-based approaches.
Promote Peckham’s vision, values, and services to all customers and stakeholders.
Assist in maintaining organization wide quality standards.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has no supervisory responsibilities.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in a Human Services field
Passing and maintaining security background checks
Maintain an unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and possess a clear driving record (in accordance with company insurance policy) to drive the company vehicle.
