What you will be doing:Your goal in this position is to represent product engineering in the category' multi-functional team. You will be leading the initiation, development, and implementation of new product and/or process development designed to support our goals and advance our product portfolio. In addition, you will be directing a diverse group of experts (Team Leaders, product engineers, mechanical designers, and support staff) in a multi-disciplined effort including budgetary responsibility to implement innovative solutions that meet the strategic requirement and business plan.Daily tasks may include: Providing strategic leadership for new product and/or process development effortsBalancing short- and long-term workforce assignment based on number of projects and workload of the category.Supporting the development and implementation of strategies and projects that integrate innovation into our product offerings and or operational processesSupporting new product development teams by approving, assigning, and coaching core team members with product development expertise, and coordinating technical and administrative support provided by corporate support functions.Establishing expectations, measures, and continuous improvement plans in the new product development process.Representing Steelcase Inc. and managing relationships with key development partners, outside development organizations, and certain suppliers.Representing PD&L within Steelcase Inc. to evaluate and influence partner's product development projects. Also help develop the product plans and project strategies that will be required to make a project successful.Acting as a conduit and screen and recommend new insights, opportunities, inventions, and outside submittals that may fit our business goals. Who you are:You are someone who quickly understand and assesses opportunities at a strategic level and can envision ways to use technology and create innovative breakthroughs in our marketplace. You are a Team Member capable to effectively work with cross functional organization (marketing, Industrial Design, Quality, Operation, ) Building rapport and influencing senior management and broad, diverse peer groups is important to you. Your background includes strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to problem solve with a hands-on approach.
