About this unit 5 West is a smaller unit comprised of 25 beds at Butterworth Hospital supporting our Emergency Department. 5W is a fast-paced unit caring for a wide range of patient population. This brings a lot of variety to the patients you will care for and provides the ability to strengthen your critical thinking skills and be part of a dynamic team providing excellent patient care to those needing further testing and observation of symptoms. Types of patients with : Chest Pain, Heart Failure, Kidney Stones, Psychiatric Diagnosis, GI, Orthopedic, and Neuro for both Acute and Chronic Illness Patients. Telemetry, IVs, NG/G-tubes, Chest Tubes, Dressing/Wound Care, CT & MRI Patients. 5W Physicians and Advance Practice Providers remain on the unit so there is 24-hour accessibility which improves relationships, care team collaboration, and efficiency of patient care. Scope of work Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. Performs basic skills per department guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Collects and reports physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families in coordination with and as delineated by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients.
