Develops and provides services related to the orientation, continuing education, and assessment of clinical staff. Provides leadership for the Emergency Department, stress lab, telemetry and observation unit, along with other entities within the cardiac service line to promote excellence in the care for the Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) patient. This position will also assist in the planning, development of program goals and operations. Coordinates and oversees the ongoing quality improvement process to improve the care of the ACS population. Shall have an effective working relationship with the hospital administration, medical staff, chairpersons of significant departments (radiology, lab, hospitalist service, and others as needed). Coordinates and administers the trauma program in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Committee according to the mission and policies of the UP Health System Bell.Collaborates with nurse managers and staff to assess the learning needs and competencies of staff.Designs, delivers, and assesses learning activities and curriculums related to clinical competencies, departmental/organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and the use of clinical information technologies.Serves as a consultant/mentor for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of new staff orientation and education activities.Ensure overall quality of patient care with clinical, interpersonal and patient/family expectations.Participates in the Chest Pain Center Budget Process.Interface with all medical staff as it relates to efficient patient care within the department.Coordinate involvement with the related physician services, such as radiology, laboratory, respiratory therapy, hospitalist service, and others as needed.Interact with the medical staff members to ensure satisfaction of care provided to patients.Attend and participate in appropriate department meetings (ED, Chest Pain Committee, etc.).Appropriately respond to medical staff complaints/concerns.Meet with administration, ED Nurse Director, and the ED medical director to provide long-range planning for the Chest Pain Center and review department objectives.Meet routinely with the ED Nurse Director to review issues and develop resolutions, review staff concerns and discuss in educational needs.Participate in hospital risk management and case reviews.Advise on medications, equipment, and patient care.Oversee data abstraction and data utilization.Have documented evidence of training and competencies related tot he CPC Accreditation data requirements within the last 3 years.Foster relationships and communication with the Chest Pain Center and ED staff.Participate in nursing performance improvement.Promote nursing in-service and education.Assist with the integration of EMS as it relates to the Chest Pain Center.Encourage EMS participation/involvement in drills.Act in the capacity of an EMS and Emergency Telecommunicator liaison to coordinate activities such as: collaboration, education, communication, process improvement, case review, etc.Complies with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, performance improvement program, safety, environment of care, management of information and infection control standards.Complies with federal and state law and accrediting and licensing agents at all times to incluede, but not limited to Joint Commission, OSHA, and federal compliance regulations.Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service.Coordinates efforts to obtain successful American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) verification of UP Health System Bell as a Level IV Trauma Center.Coordinates trauma care in collaboration with Trauma Medical Director, including planning and implementing clinical protocols and care of inpatients.Provides for staff development, participates in case review, works with Community members to coordinate community education programs.Monitors clinical outcomes and system issues related to quality care delivery, including provisions of remedial measures.Manages the operation of the trauma program, serves as a liaison to administration, and represents the trauma program.Supervises and maintains the trauma registry using the National Trauma Registry System (TRACS), facilitating performance improvement activity.Maintains a functioning network of the many disciplines, local an regional, required to provide quality trauma care, serving as a resource to all.Organizes and supports the activities of the Trauma Committee.Performs other related duties as assigned.Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service excellence throughout the organization.understands and adheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in the Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.Minimum EducationCurrent Michigan Registered Nurse License; BSN preferred Current Trauma Nurse Core course certification or obtain within 6 months BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC certification or obtain within 6 monthsMinimum Work ExperienceThree years of management experience- Preferred Three years of Emergency/Trauma experience- Preferred Word processing and data base computer skillsRequired SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
