Another Source’s client, Kalamazoo College, is recruiting a Fundraising and Alumni Specialist to join their team in Kalamazoo, Michigan (midway between Detroit and Chicago).

About the Role

TheFundraising and Alumni Specialistmanages giving initiatives related to milestone reunions and other targeted class giving, in honor of, or affinity-based initiatives that support the College’s annual fundraising efforts. In addition, they coordinate the annual giving program to solicit and steward gifts from alumni, parents, and friends of Hornet Athletics. Efforts are primarily focused on initiatives that enlist peer-to-peer strategies and/or broad-based marketing appeals. This role is highly collaborative across the Advancement Division and with internal and external constituencies.

How your time will likely be spent:

Reunion, Class, and Special Initiative Giving

In collaboration with annual giving staff and major gifts colleagues, manage K’s 50th Reunion and other class giving efforts by working with volunteers to create and support peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives.

Manage other special initiatives, as necessary, including in honor/memory of favorite professors/coaches or affinity groups.

With support from the Senior Director, respond to gift interest from prospective donors; make referrals to development officers as appropriate. Be well-versed in the College’s funding priorities and knowledgeable of the various ways to give to K.

Assist in developing and implementing annual stewardship efforts for class and other special initiatives. This includes creating content that communicates the impact of giving to donors.

Athletics Giving

In partnership with annual giving staff, manage athletics related solicitation appeals, including “family and friends” campaigns, direct mail initiatives, and the planning and implementation of the annual Hornet Athletics Giving Day.

With support from the Senior Director, manage other Hornet Athletics fundraising solicitation and stewardship activities related to the Hornet Athletic Association as needed.

Partnering with the Office of Alumni Engagement, Athletics and Advancement colleagues provide support for the Hornet Golf Jamboree.

In coordination with Advancement colleagues, track and coordinate prospective donor referrals from coaches, ensuring strong communication and follow up with coaches and Advancement colleagues, as appropriate.

Along with the Senior Director, maintain a working relationship with the Athletics division. Assist the Senior Director with monthly progress reports to the athletic director and coaches.

Other Responsibilities

Participate regularly in Advancement staff meetings and other relevant department meetings.

Complete contact reports in a timely manner. Develop metrics to evaluate program success.

Staff Homecoming and Commencement weekend activities (required) and other campus events on an as-needed basis.

Participate in professional activities to stay current with trends in the development field.

What we would like to see from you:

Bachelor’s degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in annual or major gift fundraising, athletics fundraising, volunteer or program management, marketing or comparable experience preferred.

Experience managing and developing relationships. The ability to initiate and nurture strong working relationships with others; a capacity for building confidence and trust among colleagues, donors and volunteers is essential. Must be a team player.

Ability to manage multiple projects at once, with special attention to deadlines and accuracy.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience writing/creating marketing content for varied audiences is desirable.

Knowledge of higher education fundraising, donor relations or alumni engagement. Proven ability to engage and manage volunteers preferred.

High motivation for success coupled with diplomacy, tact, and consistent follow-through.
