Responsible for assisting patients in navigating financial obligations, challenges, and programs related to their cancer diagnosis and care, and its impact on their life and family.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Develops and/or maintains database of patient financial assistance programs, and fosters relationships with associated parties.
Screens patients for program eligibility and counsels patients on their options.
Provides financial counseling for patients regarding insurance, deductibles, eligibility, and account balance issues.
Reports program successes, failures, challenges, and opportunities to leadership. Collaborates with leadership to develop and improve policies and procedures related to program operations, and follows approved policies and procedures.
Responsible for inpatient and outpatient insurance verifications and authorizations for treatment.
Reviews posting of charges and payments on billing systems.
Maintain productivity and quality assurance statistics, when needed. Facilitates data collection for relevant quality programs (ex: Michigan Radiation Oncology Quality Consortium (MROQC); Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI)).
Participates in Hospital and department quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities as required, through identification of quality improvement opportunities, goal setting, collection and evaluation of data, implementation of action plans, or related applications.
Educates new or existing personnel on policies and procedures.
Assists leadership in ensuring the daily operation is running efficiently. Reports to manager any issues affecting the billing operation.
Maintains confidentiality of all patient, employee, and physician information according to policy.
Assists with medical records requests, pre-authorizations for all procedures, and obtaining insurance referrals.
Provides general clerical support such as answering the phone, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information related to the work as needed.
Performs other duties as necessary.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of administrative experience, preferable in a healthcare setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, demonstrated through two or more years of experience in a position that required regular use of this software.
Preferred:
Associate Degree in Business/Management.
Coursework in Medical Terminology.
Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
