St. Mary Mercy has received numerous awards recognizing excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance and efficiency.GENERAL SUMMARY:JOB SUMMARYPrimary responsibility is scrubbing for Cesarean Sections and/or other operative procedures performed in theBirthing Center, such as Dilatation and Curettage, Hysterectomy or Cerclage removal. In addition this role will have the responsibility for stocking the two operating rooms and assuring maintenance of stock, supplies and instruments/case carts for this area, and stocking of patient rooms and Triage. Assists with Circumcisions, performs PKUs, hearing screening as needed, car seat inspections, pantry and supply ordering, and performs routine patient care (e.g. vital signs, bed making, bed baths, assists patients to shower).PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS :
Serving patients in a manner conducive with their comfort and safety maintaining aseptic Technique.
Performing duties in accordance with AORN standards
Responding to emergencies requiring operative intervention in an appropriate and timely manner, by quickly and efficiently preparing the OR.
Working under the direction of the RN who is circulating for the surgery and the Charge Nurse in the Birthing Center.
Performs all patient care services
Hearing Screening for neonates when volunteers are unavailable.
Performs PKUs on all neonates at 24 hours of age
Set up the operating room and opens supplies, instrument packs noting the time opened on white board in OR.
Scrubs for 7 minutes, gowns and gloves.
Sets up gown and correct size gloves for surgeons.
Counts sponges, sharps and instruments with circulator.
Correctly sets up Mayo stand and back table.
Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
Moves Mayo stand up to the field and hands connector end of bovie and suction to circulator.
Passes instruments and scalpel to surgeon, keeping instruments off field and on Mayo when not in use.
Has bulb syringe and/or suction catheter available as soon as baby’s head is delivered and makes sure field is clear when baby is born.
Passes 2 cord clamp: Kelly and bandage scissors to cut cord.
Receives placenta in basin.
Counts sponges, sharps all instruments when uterus is closed.
Keeps instruments free of blood and tissue by wiping with sterile wet sponge or swishing in sterile water (NEVER SALINE)
Counts sponges, sharps when closing peritoneum.
Counts sponges and flaps when closing fascia
Prepares dressing after skin closure given to surgeon.
Makes sure skin incision is protected before removing drape.
Properly disposes of sharps and place suction canister and other contaminates in red bag.
Pulls all linen and trash and place linen bag, trash bag and red bag on top of case cart.
Soaks and drains instruments and sends to CPD via elevator in Dirty Utility Room.
Disposes of all trash and linen in proper receptacles.
After room is cleaned: stock, replace case-cart, replaces suction canister and prepare room for set-up.
Takes/sends all specimens to lab within one hour.
Monitors all OR supplies and instruments to maintain par levels.
Checks all instruments/supplies for expiration dates.
Assists with refrigerator checks
Other appropriate tasks/assignments as delegated by the Charge Nurse.
Car seat inspections for all patients being discharged.

B.Licensure·Certification from OR Scrub Tech program preferred.
