AECOM is seeking an energetic and motivated ITS/Traffic Operations Engineer to support our services in the areas of traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and transportation systems management and operations (TSMO). The successful candidate will provide a variety of traffic and ITS engineering services to key AECOM clients and projects while working closely with a range of local and national experts. The position will also provide on-site support to operations contracts with our clients located in southeast Michigan. The ideal candidate will need to be a professional, self-motivated, and resourceful individual with strong problem-solving and communication skills, capable of effectively executing technical traffic engineering tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Job Description: This position focuses on technical traffic engineering and operations support within a Traffic Operations Center (TOC), addressing real-time traffic challenges, enhancing roadway performance, and supporting ITS and traffic signal systems. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement solutions for improved mobility and safety.Responsibilities:Develop, implement, and optimize traffic signal timing plans using tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, and related software.Perform traffic and ITS engineering studies, analyzing roadway performance and recommending operational improvements.Assist in the assessment and maintenance of traffic signal and ITS systems to ensure optimal performance.Provide technical support for real-time traffic management operations, including incident management and special event coordination.Collaborate with agency staff, contractors, and consultants to address operational challenges effectively.Prepare technical reports, analyses, and documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.Collect and analyze traffic data from the field to evaluate system performance and support engineering decisions.Maintain organized project files and adhere to operational protocols and standards.
