Job Description
The Torch Lake Yacht Club - near in Bellaire, MI, located on a 18-mile long lake rated as one of the most beautiful lakes in North America, - seeks to sailing coach/instructor for its 2019 summer season. Founded in 1928, the club enjoys a strong tradition of racing and recreational sailing, as well as tennis.
The club has one of the nations largest E Scow fleets, and also has a competitive MC Scow and Butterfly fleets. It also has fleets of Optis and Bics for it's sailing school program.
This is full-time, summer (mid June until mid to late August) position reporting to the Commodore that includes full room and board. Instructor responsibilities include:
Introductory/intermediate sailing and seamanship instruction in the teen and adult sailing/racing instruction program in Butterflies, MCs, and Melges 17s.
Race coaching in the midweek afternoon butterfly race program including club series and local regatta racing;
Supervising and mentoring teenage Junior Instructors;
Regular weekend Race Committee duties
Private lessons as required and available
Job Requirements
The club is looking for mature, enthusiastic sailors with a strong background in instruction and racing, as well as a demonstrated ability to teach sailors with varied skills and interests. The club offers competitive salary, housing, meals, and a season-end merit bonus.
Required Qualifications
Prior race coach / instructor experience
Ability to operate a motorboat safely
Preferred Qualifications
College racing experience
US Sailing Level 2 or 3 Instructor
Advanced Lifesaving / Water Safety Instructor
Ability to drive and tow a trailer
