Electromechanical Test Engineer

In this role, the ideal candidate will work as part of a cross-functional product development team, developing and launching production of electric power steering systems for various OEM vehicle platforms. Ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, executing and reporting, the bench testing and validation of the full system in development and production phases. This requires strong time management skills, and active cooperation with counterparts in other engineering disciplines such as mechanical design, electrical hardware development, software development, manufacturing, and quality. Ideal candidate will also work hand in hand with a team of technicians who perform most of the test equipment setup and operation. Electric power steering systems are a complex and exciting product so strong engineering background is required and “hands-on” mentality is very helpful.Test engineers and technicians are organizationally part of the same team, and in addition to the project testing activities, work to continuously improve testing and analysis capabilities. This gives each team member a chance to contribute based on their individual background, and it fosters further development of each team member’s skills and the collective team’s capabilities.ResponsibilitiesCreate, manage, and execute testing plan in cooperation with product development team and customerGather and analyze data from functional, durability, environmental and misuse tests of productWrite and publish test reports that include judgement and conclusion based on gathered data and analysisWork with test lab technicians to ensure accuracy and repeatability of test set up and data collectionUse methodical problem-solving approach to find root cause of test failures or diagnose problems with test set upReview customer requirements and align feasibility with product development team and customer for new testsPhysical preparation of the EPS system by flashing the appropriate software, calibrations and hardware as provided by the engineering teamsSetting appropriate condition state and security levelCheck basic function/assistanceValidate restbus functionalityCalibrate endstopsCalibrate steering angle

  • SUMMARY To assist with the delivery of engine development work both on a direct and supervisory basis for dynamometer and vehicle programs ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES Participating in the development of processes and methods that will help improve testing efficiency and accurate data collection Overseeing test cell technician staff to help aid and support the following: Project support scheduling Project execution oversight and guidance Task and responsibility delegation Materials and resource planning / procurement Continuous test facility upkeep (cleanliness, PM, inventory) Fuel usage tracking Ensuring cell technician staff report on-time and remain on-task Mentoring new personnel regarding mechanical and instrumentation setup Update the Department Manager of the team\'s progress and project results Provide guidance, coaching, instruction, direction, and training to technicians Personnel management duties including disciplinary, recruitment, goal setting and performance reviews. Inform Department Manager and Human Resources of matters that could escalate to disciplinary actions Communicate clear instructions to team members Supporting as required the specification, set up, maintenance, and calibration of high-level test equipment such as combustion analyzers and emissions benches Supporting as required: set up, tuning, data collection, cycle writing etc. for dyno control systems Supporting and supervising engine installation to test cells including mounting, dyno drive shaft selection, torque transducer selection etc. Assisting in specifying general test equipment e.g. sizing/specifying heat exchangers, pumps, flow meters, valves, transducers etc Working closely with engineering and customers to help ensure projects are executed according to development group processes Assisting in resolving technical problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts Maintaining a working knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly Maintaining awareness of the Company Quality System Observing all safety rules and regulations and help ensure a safe workplace for all test cell technicians. Must act safely and be responsible for the safety of others around work area and recommend any possible safety issues to the department manager Employees duties are not limited to those stated above, but are inclusive of any tasks assigned by supervisor/manager QUALIFICATIONS 10 or more years of dynamometer testing related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience Ability to prepare and test engines with minimal input information Work effectively with a variety of people such as; management, design, calibration, build, and test engineers, as well as customers and supplier representatives Knowledge of internal processes and procedures Knowledge of customer processes and procedures Knowledge of customer quality requirements Experience Mentoring staff Ability to assess weaknesses in department capability and identify possible solutions to management Must be self motivated and possess the drive to complete tasks in a timely manner and with appropriate attention to detail Microsoft Office Skills Do you have any questions?
