Maintenance & Automation Technician Internship

Position Overview

This internship provides hands-on exposure to advanced industrial automation and maintenance systems within a highly automated distribution environment. The Maintenance & Automation Intern will work closely with experienced Maintenance Technicians and the Automation & Controls Engineer (Chao Xiong) to support electrical, mechanical, and controls-related maintenance activities.

This role is designed for students pursuing degrees in engineering, industrial maintenance, electrical technology, mechatronics, or related technical fields who are looking to build real-world experience in automation, controls, and equipment reliability.

This is a summer internship spanning from May 18th, 2026- August 14th, 2026. (Start date subject to change to May 26th, based on student availability and convenience)

Key ResponsibilitiesAssist maintenance technicians with troubleshooting and repairing automated equipment, including robotics, conveyors, gantry systems, stretch wrappers, and material handling systems.Support basic electrical troubleshooting under supervision, including low-voltage controls and exposure to 480V systems (with proper training and oversight).Gain hands-on experience with Allen Bradley PLC-controlled equipment, motor controls, VFDs, and servo-driven systems.Work alongside the Automation & Controls Engineer (Chao Xiong) to observe and assist with automation improvements, controls diagnostics, and system upgrades.Participate in preventative maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.Help document maintenance activities, equipment issues, and corrective actions using the CMMS system.Adhere to all safety, EHS, and OSHA requirements, maintaining a strong focus on safe work practices at all times.Support additional maintenance and engineering projects as assigned based on skill level and academic focus.

 Qualifications & RequirementsCurrently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program (engineering, automation, industrial maintenance, electrical, mechatronics, or related technical field preferred).Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder and in good academic standing.Strong interest in industrial maintenance, automation, and controls engineering.Basic understanding of electrical and/or mechanical systems (hands-on experience or coursework preferred).Ability to safely work in an industrial environment and follow established procedures.Willingness to learn, ask questions, and collaborate with technicians and engineers.Strong communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.Compensation

This is a paid internship. Hourly pay is based on academic standing and technical discipline

 Additional InformationInternship schedule is flexible and based on student availability (not tied to a fixed shift).This role does not replace a full-time Maintenance Technician position and is intended as a learning-focused opportunity with increasing responsibility over time.
