Job Summary:
The Cemetery Lead-In Driver plays a vital role in the coordination of funeral processions on cemetery grounds. This position involves driving a cemetery-provided vehicle to lead funeral processions to graveside locations in a safe, respectful, and organized manner. As a visible representative of the cemetery, the driver ensures families and guests are guided with care, professionalism, and attention to detail during emotionally sensitive occasions.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate cemetery vehicle (usually a lead car or utility vehicle) to guide funeral processions safely to designated gravesites
Coordinate with funeral directors, cemetery staff, and grounds crew to ensure correct timing and placement
Greet and assist funeral home staff and families as needed upon arrival at the cemetery
Safely navigate cemetery roads and maintain awareness of traffic flow, pedestrians, and surroundings
Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any mechanical issues to cemetery management
Perform visual checks of grave locations prior to service and alert staff of any issues or obstacles
Occasionally assist with service setup (e.g., water, umbrellas, signage) as needed
Represent the cemetery with professionalism and empathy at all times
Other tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
Reliable, punctual, and courteous
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for funeral settings
Strong situational awareness and the ability to remain calm and respectful during emotionally sensitive events
Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with both staff and visitors
Previous experience in funeral, cemetery, or customer service work is a plus but not required
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening if required by employer policy
Work Environment:
This is an outdoor, on-call role that involves interaction with grieving families and funeral personnel. It requires attentiveness, respect for protocol, and comfort working in solemn or emotional settings. Driving is the primary responsibility, but light physical activity (such as walking to grave locations, carrying small supplies, standing for long periods of time) will be necessary.

Casual, on-call position based on service schedule
Flexible availability required, including some weekends and holidays
