Job Summary:
We are looking for a compassionate, reliable, and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Chapel Attendant & Event Coordinator on a casual or part-time basis. This role supports funeral services and memorial events in the cemetery space, ensuring a respectful and smooth experience for families and guests. The position includes preparing venues, greeting attendees, assisting with light coordination of services and logistics, and location clean-up following services. This position also includes participation in covering the cemetery office on Saturdays as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet families and guests with empathy, professionalism, and discretion
Must be able to handle independently as well as assist with setting up and breaking down chapel spaces (seating, flowers, photos, audio/visual equipment, etc.)
Coordinate logistics before, during, and after services, including seating, service flow, and reception setup
Provide support to Funeral Directors and officiants during services
Escort family members and pallbearers as needed
Operate AV systems (microphones, music, slideshows) for services
Maintain cleanliness and order in chapel, lounge, and reception areas
Handle post-service cleanup and resetting of spaces
Handle inquiries and provide guidance to guests respectfully and professionally
Maintain confidentiality and a calm presence at all times
Assist with service planning or administrative tasks as assigned
Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required
Previous experience in hospitality, events, or funeral services is a strong asset
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Empathetic, calm, and professional demeanor
Comfortable working around grieving individuals and in sensitive environments
Ability to lift and move chairs, flowers, or light furnishings as needed
Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
Basic familiarity with AV equipment (training can be provided)
Valid driver’s license preferred
Work Environment:
This position is primarily onsite in the cemetery chapel/gathering room, event setting, and/or cemetery office. It involves standing, light lifting, and working in a supportive role during emotionally sensitive occasions. Attendants are expected to dress in formal or professional attire and maintain a respectful presence at all times.
