Role Overview:
The Damage Prevention Specialist / Locate Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of underground utilities. This position is responsible for accurately identifying, locating, and marking subsurface utilities to mitigate risks associated with excavation and construction activities.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conduct comprehensive underground utility mapping, including telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer lines.
· Utilize GPS data collection technology to document and update utility locations.
· Identify potential infrastructure obstacles and recommend alternative solutions to enhance safety and efficiency.
· Collaborate with contractors and utility locate teams to prevent infrastructure damage.
· Maintain and operate GPS RTK equipment, handheld devices, and a company-assigned vehicle.
· Utilize mobile data collection software to document findings and communicate with engineers, clients, and project managers.
Qualifications & Skills:
· Strong attention to detail with a safety-first mindset · Self-motivated and capable of working independently
· Excellent communication skills for interactions with contractors and the general public
· Ability to follow technical instructions and problem-solve in dynamic field environments
Requirements:
· Education: High school diploma or equivalent (vocational training preferred)
· Experience: Minimum of one year in utility locating or related fields (e.g., HDD, heavy equipment operation, vac truck operation)
· Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in diverse weather conditions.
· Licensing: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
