Job Description

Job Summary:

The Peer Outreach Worker is responsible for performing and maintaining services and programs that satisfy specific identified needs of youth. The incumbent demonstrates ethical behavior and maintains clear and healthy boundaries with youth while performing all aspects of their designated program. This is a part time position with an average of 20 hours/week.

Essential Functions:

Perform all functions and responsibilities in a youth focused, culturally competent manner.

Identify, make referrals to, and coordinate necessary and appropriate community resource programs.

Establish and maintain working relationships with peers, community, educators, youth support systems, and resource staff to achieve established program plan goals.

Develop and maintain appropriate supportive, nurturing, and empowering relationships with youth.

Assist with donations and resources at the resource Hubs and special events. Including logging and tracking all resources and contacts made.

Relationships:

This position reports to the Youth Support Program Manager or Youth Support Program Director who reports to the Program Executive. The incumbent interacts regularly with youth, families, community partners/agencies, educators, volunteers and other YMCA program staff.

Qualifications:

Required

Minimum of 2 years of equivalent experience or knowledge related to the field in and/or working with resources and programs that serve young adults and youth experiencing homelessness.

Demonstrated professionalism in the areas of time management and communication

Ability to effectively problem solve utilizing all resources available.

Ability to work as a team and represent the Y and the core values.

Non driving position , must be able to work in the field, there is no remote or work from home.

Experience working with diverse populations.

Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite (Word and Excel)

Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED certification with the first 30 days of employment

Preferred

Multilingual

Prior experience navigating homeless services and resources

Work Conditions:

Ability to perform a variety of physical activities with program participants which may include but are not limited to walking, standing for long periods of time, running, throwing and lifting up to 50lbs.

Ability to travel locally to attend outreach events, outreach shifts, and meetings as scheduled.

Ability to work weekends and evenings
