Maintenance Technician

Do you consider yourself handy and enjoy helping others troubleshoot mechanical problems or where that leak is coming from? You often say, I can fix that! If so, you should join our team at the American Swedish Institute (ASI) as our Maintenance Technician. ASI is a beloved museum and 95-year-old cultural institution, a gathering place for all people to share experiences around themes of culture, migration, the environment, and the arts. In this job you'll be a partner responsible for caring, repairing and maintaining our modern building, a historic mansion on the National Register of Historic Places, commercial kitchens, staff offices and grounds. You will be the go-to person who can repair a broken toilet on the fly, patch that hole in the wall, and pitch in to assist a busy custodial team during a festival day. No two days will be the same. You will work as a part of the Facilities team and collaborate with other key staff in order to ensure that the ASI campus is prepared and ready for public use. ASI is looking for (1) full-time or (2) part-time Maintenance Technicians. Please indicate your employment status preference.Rate: $26.00/hour and overtime eligible Hours & Classification: Non-exempt, hourly. Full-time is benefit eligible. What you'll get to do in this role:Provide routine HVAC maintenance including repairs to boiler, heat pumps, and air handlers and filter replacement Perform drywall repairs and painting Provide small equipment upkeep and repairs Collaborate and coordinate with ASI departments on building projects, painting and repairs including preparation for exhibitions Provide light fabrication and carpentry workTroubleshoot and repair plumbing issues including fixture repair and replacement Troubleshoot and repair simple electrical issuesSchedule outside vendor maintenance as necessary for repairs Manage a parts list for the Facility Manager, order parts necessary to perform repairs and maintenance Monitor inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies Alongside the Facilities Manager, monitor building security systems Execute regular maintenance plan Perform back-up custodial duties as needed based on staffing needsProvide on-call support outside of normal building hours as needed with a team of assigned facilities supervisorsTo be successful in this role you will have the following qualifications:H.S. Diploma or equivalent 3+ years of maintenance experience A can-do attitude supports all of our teamMechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical and mechanical basics to diagnose and repair problemsExperience working with hand and power toolsExperience with a scissor liftBe organized with attention to detailAbility to plan your own workday and prioritize daily tasks without supervisionAbility to read and interpret documents such as operating procedures, machine manuals, and general instructionsBe punctual, reliable with a strong work ethicPossess or willing to acquire a special Boiler's licensePhysical ability to stand for long periods of time, bend, squat, use hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, use a ladder multiple times a day, use cleaning equipment, talk and hearAbility to lift 20 pounds often, and occasionally up to 50 poundsWhat success looks like in this role:You help maintain our buildings to the highest standard keeping in mind ASI's Leed Gold Certification and best practices in historic buildingYour care of the buildings, equipment, and mechanics provide a comfortable and inviting experience for our visitors, volunteers, and colleaguesYour can-do attitude to collaborate with key stakeholders will lead to smooth department interactionsYour communication to Facilities Manager and others provides understanding of complex building issues and creative solutionsYour prompt service of work orders supports ASI's mission and our value of stewardship for the entire ASI campusYou feel pride in your work and enjoy collaboration with fun, energetic co-workersEEO STATEMENT The American Swedish Institute is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
