Job Summary:
General Pattern Co. is seeking a Model Maker to create accurate and detailed physical models, prototypes, and mock-ups of products, architectural designs, or other objects. This role requires a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and an understanding of various materials and fabrication techniques. The Model Maker will work closely with designers, engineers, and clients to bring concepts to life.
Responsibilities and Requirements
Model Creation: Fabricate models using various materials such as wood, metal, plastic, and foam.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and CAD designs to accurately replicate designs.
Tool Operation: Operate tools and machinery such as CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, 3D printers, and hand tools.
Finishing: Apply finishing techniques including painting, sanding, and assembling to ensure high-quality final products.
Prototype Development: Work on prototypes to test form, fit, function, and manufacturability.
Documentation: Keep detailed records of the materials used, methods applied, and any modifications made during the model-making process.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Experience in model making or a related field, such as cabinet making.
Skills:
- Proficient in using hand tools and power tools.
- Knowledge of machinery used in woodworking.
- Strong understanding of materials and fabrication techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in workmanship.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and use hands for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting and handling materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Primarily a workshop environment with exposure to various materials and machinery.
