I've hired thousands of people in my career for a range of different jobs, including door-to-door canvasser jobs for political candidates across the Northeast U.S. This is easily the oddest want ad I've ever published - but it's probably the most important.
David Russell is a 44-year old man from Winona, Minnesota who is currently being held against his will at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. On November 25, he will be going to court to defend himself against doctors who want to administer multiple sessions of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to treat what they allege is his out-of-control behavior. (ECT is also commonly referred to as "shock" therapy). Last spring, he was forcibly given approximately 17 rounds of ECT at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
A small group of advocates believe David's doctors are not justified in shocking him against his will. We also believe that David has not been given a legally adequate opportunity to defend himself in court. Unfortunately, we failed to stop the Mayo Clinic from shocking David last spring. And it appears there is a good chance David will lose in court on the 25th and get shocked again soon after.
Consequently, I believe we have no other choice but to mount an in-person protest at Regions Hospital. I've made this decision myself though. I don't have the backing of any organization. I also live in New York City and cannot afford to fly to St. Paul, which is why I am posting this gig on Craigslist.
I want to hire at least one civic-minded individual to drive to Regions Hospital and protest what's being done to David. In regards to how exactly that protest will take shape, we'll need to discuss that on a zoom call.
Compensation is to be determined and will depend on the scope and details of the protest, such as how long the protest lasts and what you do while protesting.
