Summary Description:

The Crew leads primary responsibility is to oversee the routine maintenance of exterior landscape accounts. In order to ensure the highest level of services are provided, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Lead by example using a hands-on approach. Ensure responsibilities are assigned in a fair and equitable manner. Report to and work with Manager on behavioral and/or performance challenges that may arise among Crew Members.

Provide in-field training on horticultural techniques, safety, equipment use, and respectful communication.

Familiarize Crew Members with all aspects of maintaining accounts (including location of management office, security and particulars about parking and restrooms).

Brief Crew Members daily on goals and expectations. Keep Crew apprised of changes to routine.

Schedule 10-minute morning and afternoon breaks and half-hour lunch as appropriate. Agree on times with Crew Members.

Prioritize and plan work for the day/week.

Keep Manager apprised of changes to scheduled route and/or need for assistance.

Report immediately to Manager any accidents, illnesses or other non-routine occurrence that is a cause for concern and/or that may disrupt work schedule.

Perform landscape maintenance tasks on customers property including, but not limited to:

Maintenance of trees, shrubs, perennial and seasonal flowers.

Use of hand shears, hand pruners and hand loppers. Gas and electric equipment such as: power shears, power blowers, mowers, line trimmers and blowers

Mowing, edging, blowing fertilizer application, weed control, bed raking, trimming and pruning.

Perform all regular tasks including but not limited to leaf and debris removal.

Watering containers, beds and hanging baskets as needed.

Report to Manager, on same-day basis, the need for replacement plants or special services, or about customer concerns.

Maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach to service while communicating with crew members, supervisors and managers

Project a good company image to our customers and the general public at all times.

Ensure a professional appearance, good hygiene and a clean uniform.

Understand and uphold Exterior Department Quality Standards.

Responsible for managing equipment including but not limited to:

Report problems/concerns with equipment and tools or need for tools/equipment and supplies

Keeping track of issued tools at all times.

Keep tools in working order ensuring they are clean, sharp, organized, and labeled accordingly.

Keep power equipment secured with cable and lock when in truck and not in use.

Keep tools and equipment organized and secure when on job sites.

Work vehicle maintenance:

Maintain clean vehicle at all times, ensuring interior and exterior cleanliness.

Remove personal items from vehicles daily (lunchboxes, cell phones, garbage, etc.).

Adhere to Company maintenance inspection policy.

Report any and all accidents (regardless of nature and severity) immediately.

Wash truck weekly and keep cab interior clean and organized.

Complete monthly Vehicle Inspections and complete required paperwork.

Ensure working hours, including overtime, have been recorded accurately and truthfully for each time period worked.

Ensure interior and exterior work sites are restored to original condition, or better if necessary without holes, exposed pipes or gravel, footprints in beds or interior spaces, exposed roots, or soil/debris on surrounding hardscape upon completion of work.

Under direction of Supervisor, assist in general upkeep of shop. Help direct Crew Members in this effort.

Participate in company LEAN activities and maintain areas as assigned.

Monitor emails, and phone messages throughout workday and respond in a timely manner.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ensure knowledge of the appropriate safety and environmental revisions. Handle plants and tools with care, being concerned with safety and security. Immediately report any concerns regarding safety to Manager.

Level Requirements

Minimum of 1-2 year of horticultural education or equivalent industry experience.

Must have a valid Drivers License and maintain a clean driving record.

Must be knowledgeable of various types of common plants and be able to identify the plants that the Company maintains.

Verifiable good working knowledge of proper horticultural techniques including pruning, watering, fertilizing and insect and disease control.

Experience using standard landscape equipment and tools properly and safely (21 mower, line trimmer, blower, power shears, and hand tools).

A current pesticide application license (Commercial Operators License) preferred. Those currently pursuing the pesticide application license may be considered.

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Occasionally required to work on ledges with exposure to heights.

The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20-40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Varied Field Environment performing outdoor work with moderate to occasional loud noise.
