JOB DESCRIPTION: Manual Machinist
FUNCTION: To provide integrity and quality control by consistently delivering superior fabrication and manufacturing of parts and components with vertical and horizontal milling machines, lathes, drills, saws, welding, and surface grinders while maximizing personal productivity. They will work with a positive attitude, with a spirit of cooperation and occasionally mentor co-workers, some of whom may be apprentices while maximizing personal productivity. S/he will uphold company standards on areas such as work rules and complies with all Company workplace safety programs.

DUTIES:
Inspecting and flag roller cores that need repairs. Some examples are journal repairs, inside bore repairs, keyways, snapped off ends etc.
Responsible for set-up and run of custom one of a kind and volume quality parts on manual machines with close tolerances in a time definite environment. Environment requires working in carbon, steel, brass, copper, and alloy steels with small and large parts with close tolerances from drawings and samples.

o Filter changes/cleaning
o Oil changes
o General lubrication
o Machine repairs
DAILY WORK FUNCTIONS:
1- Inspect and repair incoming used roller cores.
2- Must be able to read drawings and lay-out work.
3- Records start/stop times on timesheets to account for production time.
4- Provides other supplemental services to the rubber roller production area of the company.
5- Takes necessary preventative maintenance steps on all equipment, both machine shop and rubber roller production to ensure production machines are at peak performance and reports any irregularities to immediate supervisor. Support secondary manufacturing operations such as Disassembly, stripping, building, grinding, finishing, assembly, or packaging of manufactured product where needed.
6- Be knowledgeable in quality control in machine shop processes, and quality standards in the use of calipers, micrometer and dial indicators for checking of finished part. Be knowledgeable and remain current with all safety guidelines with regards to facilities and environmental compliance issues.
7- Acquire technical updates from the Shop Foreman on machines and support equipment as necessary to provide production support, proper repair and maintenance.
8- Must understand that time-sensitive work orders are to be prioritized and furthermore communicate conditions which compromise on time completion or restrict its production.
9- Communicate the status of lack of material, out-of-service machines and/or equipment to the Shop supervisor well in advance of each work process for which would ordinarily be needed to complete scope of work.
10- Maintain accurate time keeping on work orders of all shop and maintenance related work and submit to Shop supervisor as work is completed
11- Utilizes forklift to load and unload raw product as necessary.
12- Ensures any surplus raw inventory pulls for stock items or assemble are returned to stock and are properly identified.
13- Observes displays, cutting or machining process, and listens to sound of machines to detect malfunctions. S/he is responsible for the replacement of worn or damaged machine parts.
RISK MANAGEMENT:
Uses established safety practices in physical movement and mechanical lifting of merchandise to protect the health and safety of personnel and property. Machine operator must be able to change work environments/hours as schedule dictates. Slack/Peak demand workloads command time pressure to meet productivity standards. Mandatory overtime will be scheduled on an “as needed” basis. Work scope requires bending, stooping, carrying, climbing, ladders and stairs. Lifting and moving is 45lbs or greater. Job requires exposure to temperature changes and will require experience with operation of fork-lift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to change work environment at a moment’s notice in order to meet needs of the service for time definite production schedules.
EDUCATION- high school diploma, GED or VO-TECH degree, welding certifications
EXPERIENCE- Previous industrial metal manufacturing and 2 years machining experience.
