This position is responsible for the direction, guidance, safety health and welfare, of all site staff including documentation and execution of the day to day field operational needs of the individual project. They assist the Superintendent in managing the day to day crews and sub-contractors. They ensure safe working conditions, everyone is trained and understands all hazards of each job site, and what is taking place with respect to productivity. What You'll DoRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Is directly responsible for leading and working along with a crew which consist of Journeyman, Apprentices, Operators, and Groundmen. This position will lay out work and make certain that materials, tools, equipment and information are on the job site in the proper locations to meet construction schedules. Position interacts with Superintendent or Project Manager and on smaller projects may oversee complete installation.
Must be able to report to assigned job site location on time or as directed.
Has ability to monitor work in progress.
Accurately has ability / knowledge to fairly evaluate fellow employees work performance.
Train field personnel in technical skills and safety methods
Project Safety
Clearly understand and comply with Company/Job Safety Requirements. (O.S.H.A.)
Clearly understand and complies to Company Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
Apply Discipline to field staff when necessary.
Ensure all emergency phone numbers for the projects are understood and where closest hospitals are located and which route to take in case of emergency.
Cooperate and work with Safety Department to ensure safety incidents are investigated openly and honestly.
Ensure all safety flashes and safety information is posted and disseminated to all field personnel.
Equipment and Tools
Ensure Minor maintenance, upkeep and service is being completed.
Employee training and documentation, (written and signed), for the safe operation of each piece of equipment or tool.
Ensure staff is trained on equipment they are operating
Knowledge and use and safe handling of tools, equipment and materials.
Accurately organize materials and tools in order to maintain clean and neat work areas.
Properly and effectively installs electrical systems as required.
Accurately / timely trouble shoots all type wiring.
Must be able to safely use and instruct proper use of all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders and KO punches.
Work with shop to maximize the equipment resources of the company.
Production
Communicate to the crew, subcontractors and owner to maintain a good working relationship.
Inventory, record keeping, organization and usage of materials required.
Project Paperwork and Documentation
Read and Understand all contract requirements and paperwork documentation
Knowledge to accurately oversee time reporting and proper coding of time sheets
General Project Paperwork and Documentation:
Weekly and Monthly Paper work
Marked up received material purchase orders, field purchase orders, cash receipts and charge card receipts, mailed or delivered to the Superintendent no less than once per week.
Employee Termination Notices with comments sent to Project Manager and Human Resources.
Other employee documentation as necessary (discipline, time off, evaluations, etc.)
Ensure all paperwork is completed timely and accurate.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Job may require working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, or snow.
Job may require operation of equipment in all elements without climate control.
Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities. (Porta-Johns).
Job always requires employee to have required hand tools with them while at work site. (Waist tool belts can weigh up to 30 lbs.)
Must always wear personnel protective equipment. (i.e., Hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
Ability to work 8 hours per day, night shift, 40 hours per week and overtime as required with little or on short notice.
Valid Driver’s License and have own transportation. (Note most sites are not always served by Public Transportation).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS – (THE EMPLOYEE SHOULD BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMODATIONS):
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
Ability to lift by one’s self work loads of 51 lbs.
Possess good vision / hearing. (Normal or corrected).
Must be able to make transition from employee parking area of street into construction areas and to gain access to all levels of the building or structure, even if the only means of access is by O.S.H.A. approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
Ability to work while constantly moving on one's feet.
Ability to use 2 handed tools / equipment. (i.e., cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers, etc.)
Must be able to work from all type of ladders. (Step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders and all size extension ladders and must be able to carry and relocate 12' stepladder by one's self). Note: Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limits of the ladder. (class 1- 250lbs., class 1A - 300lbs.).
Perform work at various heights, up to 90 ' from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, roofs or other safe work areas.
Ability to work in restrictive / tight areas. (i.e., switchgear rooms, crawl spaces, utility tunnels, attics, etc.)
