We are seeking a Maintenance Engineering Co-op for our paper mill operations in St. Paul, Minnesota. In operation since 1908, the St. Paul Mill produces both Corrugated Medium and Coated Recycled Boxboard. Due to the location (central in the Twin Cities - 2.5 miles East of the U of M Minneapolis campus, and 2 miles south of the St. Paul campus), the mill is well suited as a local recycler of paper products. The mill consumes approximately 1100 tons per day of recycled paper and cardboard from the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. The OpportunityThe Maintenance Engineering Co-op (Mechanical or Electrical focus) will provide daily technical support to production, engineering, and maintenance operations. This position will support site manufacturing goals through analysis, documentation efforts and project work. Using applicable software to evaluate, document and communicate findings, recommendations, and results. Support maintenance personnel in resolving facilities and equipment problems using systematic methods of troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans. Participation in FMEA, PFD, Kaizen and other cross-functional teams. Lead small maintenance projects to improve site safety and equipment reliability. Bill of Material Data entry into Maintenance workflow system. Other duties as required.What you will need to succeed: Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree course of study towards Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar discipline. A willingness to work in the manufacturing environment. An interest, willingness, and drive to learn new concepts, processes, and the ability to set meaningful goals for personal work productivity. Organizational skills to plan, arrange and/or monitor work in a systemic manner to ensure achievement of desired results. Ability to analyze, weigh relevance and accuracy of information; to generate and evaluate solutions, or to make recommendations derived from a logical, systematic, or sequential approach. Ability and flexibility to adapt to quickly changing demands, processes, and updated information, modifying one’s personal approach to achieve desired results. Excellent communication skills. Ability to exchange thoughts, ideas, and messages, through written, verbal, and non-verbal methods that promote an understanding with the target audience; listen carefully and attentively. Demonstrated team skills; Ability to collaborate with supervisors and crafts people in individual or team environments. A basic understanding of manufacturing environment safety requirements would be preferred but not required. General maintenance knowledge of maintaining and monitoring equipment (pumps, turbines, compressors, stationary equipment, etc.) would be preferred but not required. A basic knowledge of Microsoft Project, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
