This Position is for an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering with a public university work location in University, MS.Position DescriptionThe Civil Engineering Department at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of structural engineering. Exceptional candidates may be considered for higher rank. The appointment is anticipated to begin in August 2025. Seek a dynamic and innovative scholar who will develop a robust research program and contribute to high-quality teaching in structural engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.Responsibilities and ExpectationsResearch: The successful candidate will conduct research in civil engineering with emphasis on structural engineering. The successful candidate is expected to build a strong externally-funded research program in structural engineering.Teaching: The successful candidate will contribute to teaching structural analysis, pre-cast/pre-stress concrete, steel and timber design, bridge engineering, numerical methods, multi-hazard structural engineering, and other related civil engineering courses. The successful candidate is expected to work closely with industry partners and professional engineers to develop experiential projects for students.Service: The successful candidate will serve on departmental, school and university committees and be actively involved in professional and societal communities. The successful candidate is expected to help in advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.OpportunitiesOpportunities exist for collaboration with current faculty in the School of Engineering, the Center for Graphene Research and Innovation (CGRI), the National Center for Computation Hydroscience and Engineering (NCCHE), and the Center for STEM Learning.Position DetailsAppointment: 9 MonthAssignment Type: Tenure TrackMinimum Qualifications1. A Ph.D. degree in civil engineering or a related field with emphasis on structural engineering.2. Ability to develop and teach civil engineering courses including structural analysis and design, and other fundamental civil engineering related courses, as needed.Research experience by demonstrating ability to conduct funded research in structural engineering related fields.Preferred Qualifications:1. Experience in promoting educational programs and mentoring students.2. Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) with the possibility of registration in the State of Mississippi.3.
