Position: Facilities Technician, Full Time Non-Exempt at Columbia Independent School
Reports to: Security and Facilities Coordinator
Position Overview
The Facilities Technician at Columbia Independent School plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of facilities within the school. This individual assists in overseeing the day-to-day activities related to building maintenance, safety protocols, and facility-related projects. They are expected to be highly organized, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate proficiency in multiple aspects of facility maintenance.
Essential Duties, Skills, and Responsibilities
● Conduct routine daily inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and areas for improvement.
● Diagnose and repair broken assets, such as plumbing, heating and wiring. Ability to use basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and custodial hand and powered electric tools.
● Collaborate with custodial staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of facility projects and repairs.
● Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs to prolong the lifespan of equipment and facilities.
● Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, equipment inventory, and safety inspections.
● Respond promptly to facility-related emergencies and address issues as they arise, including outside of regular business hours as needed.
● Help enforce compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
● Use a maintenance request system to coordinate with other departments to support facility-related needs and initiatives, such as office relocations or event planning. Assist with events set up and break down.
● Clear school grounds of snow, debris, and/or ice as needed.
● Water outside plants and trees as needed.
● Ability to independently lift and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
● Ability to stand, walk stairs, kneel, squat, stoop, push, pull, twist, bend, use ladders, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time.
● Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in facility management
Qualifications
● Proven experience (3-5 years) in facility management, building maintenance, or related field.
● Strong technical knowledge of building systems, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems.
● Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
● Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
● Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
● Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.
