Job Description:The purpose of this position is to assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes for outpatient claims in order to ensure a valid data base to be used for research, reporting, quality improvement activities, management of days not final billed (DNFB) and appropriate reimbursement.Job Essentials

Codes ancillary encounters utilizing ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes according to the official coding guidelines as published in Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM.

Abstracts data elements for ancillary encounters as required by the facility.

Coordinates with Ancillary Departments relative to medical necessity issues.

Meets facility productivity and quality standards for ancillary coding.

Utilizes official coding guidelines and resources as required including Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM, Faye Brown Coding Handbook, UHDDS guidelines for sequencing, pharmacology reference, medical dictionary, CMS directives and bulletins, and Fiscal intermediary communications.

Reports inaccuracies found in coding software to HIM coding supervisor, reports any potential unethical and/or fraudulent activity per compliance policy, adheres to all HIM coding and compliance policies, and reports inaccuracy or inconsistencies in coding practices to the HIM coding supervisor.

Updates knowledge and skills by reviewing quarterly Coding Clinic and completing semi-annual quiz, attending Intermountain coder training as required, and reviewing coding newsletters.

Interacts and communicates effectively with other departmental personnel (i.e., medical staff).

Works effectively in achieving department tasks and goals.

Minimum QualificationsExperience or formal training in medical terminology.

The Treatment Bureau operates as the state authority for the development, oversight, and delivery of appropriate mental health treatment programs for adults and substance use disorder treatment programs for adults and youth. The Special Populations Section within the Treatment Bureau aims to address behavioral health service gaps for special populations not otherwise served by state programs. The section primarily oversees state-funded behavioral health crisis services and jail-based behavioral health services. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing behavioral health programs and initiatives aimed at reducing reliance on physical health systems, state hospitals, and local law enforcement. This role manages key programs that focus on diverting individuals from crisis situations and enhancing system-level support.
