Essential Job FunctionsLeadership & Management:

Provide strategic direction and leadership to the organization.

Oversee the training, and performance evaluation of staff providing laboratory services.

Develop and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure efficient and high-quality operations.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including CLIA, CAP, and OSHA standards.

Oversee quality control and quality assurance programs to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in test results.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure laboratory operations meet regulatory and accreditation standards.

Financial Management:

Develop and manage the laboratory’s budget, including cost control, and resource allocation.

Oversee the procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality.

Monitor laboratory billing and coding practices to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement.

Operational Oversight:

Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring timely and accurate processing of laboratory tests and results.

Maintain any laboratory information systems (LIS) and other technologies to enhance laboratory efficiency and data management.

Collaborate with other departments and healthcare providers to optimize laboratory services and support patient care.

Strategic Planning & Development:

Develop and implement long-term strategies for laboratory growth and development, including the introduction of new technologies and services.

Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in laboratory science and incorporate them into laboratory practices.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the laboratory.

Communication & Collaboration:

Serve as the primary liaison between the laboratory and external entities, including regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and healthcare providers.

Communicate effectively with senior management, providing regular updates on laboratory performance, challenges, and opportunities.

Collaborate with clinical teams to align laboratory services with the overall goals of the healthcare organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.

In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.

Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.

Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and other relevant technologies.

Experience and Education Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.

Master’s degree preferred.

A business management degree in addition is advantageous and preferred.

Certification from a recognized professional body, such as ASCP, or eligibility for such certification.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with at least 1 year in a management or leadership role.

Employment Requirements:

Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect and fingerprint check.

Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment.

All training requirements including Relias at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter.

Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and current auto insurance.
