The Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Assistant Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.Description of Primary Duties The School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability invites applications for a tenure-track Sedimentary Geology/Stratigraphy faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2025 with expertise in sedimentary geology and/or stratigraphy. A Ph.D. in Geology or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment. The successful applicant will teach introductory geology general education courses, Sedimentary Geology, have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the selected candidate’s area of expertise, and lead geology field trips. A commitment to undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching, recruitment of undergraduate and graduate research students, mentorship of graduate research within the department’s master’s programs, and maintaining an active research agenda are required. Candidates who have the ability to teach upper-level courses in more than one subdiscipline of geology are encouraged to apply. The candidate should demonstrate an ability to encourage an understanding of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or varied backgrounds. The School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability has 21 full time faculty (19 ranked faculty) spanning a broad range of expertise and interests across the disciplines it houses (https://geosciences.missouristate.edu). There are 8 faculty supporting the Geology program. The School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability is primarily housed in Blunt Hall, which is undergoing a state-of-the-art upgrade to include new laboratory and teaching spaces. On campus analytical instrumentation includes ICP -MS and SEM facilities. The department grants undergraduate degrees in four majors: Geography and Sustainability, Geology, Community and Regional Planning, and Geospatial Science; an M.S. in Geography and Geology; and a broad array of certificate programs. Additionally, we participate in interdisciplinary graduate programs in Applied Science and Environmental Management. The department also houses the Center for Resource Planning and Management (https://crpm.missouristate.edu/) and the Ozarks Environmental and Water Resources Institutes (https://oewri.missouristate.edu/).Minimum Acceptable Qualifications The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.Additional Qualifications A Ph.D. in Geology or closely related field required at time of appointment (August 11, 2025). Expertise in Sedimentary Geology at a level adequate to supervise master’s level graduate students, an aggressive research agenda documented by a detailed research plan, demonstrated potential for recruitment of undergraduate and graduate research students, and a commitment to undergraduate- and master’s-level teaching and research mentorship are required.
