Cemetery Grounds Crewman
Status: Full-time
Pay Range: $14-$17
Normal Working Hours: Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm. Work may also include weekends, holidays, and overtime work.
Job Summary: Serves as a working supervisor and is responsible for supervising, planning and coordinating all activities with grounds maintenance and janitorial services at Yellowstone National Cemetery.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Mow, edge, trim, prune, and weed-eat lawns, flower beds, and memorial markers.
Fertilize lawns, flowers, plants, shrubs, hedges, and trees as required.
Operates equipment to include, but not necessarily limited to, backhoe, excavator, tractors/mowers, chain saws, trimmers, edgers, weed eaters, blowers, sprayers, and spray washers.
Assisting in lifting and placing caskets on lowering devices.
Assists in the maintenance and repairs of the Cemetery water system.
Set & receive memorials/markers as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Examples of job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following duties:
Maintains the grounds, the buildings janitorial and cemetery property.
Maintains all cemetery buildings, grounds, and equipment. Performs minor repairs and maintenance to buildings and equipment as necessary. Performs preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of equipment and vehicles. Ensures that building repairs are completed in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
Repairs graves that have settled, applies fertilizers, and weed killers.
Plants and waters shrubbery, flowers, trees, and grass. Seeds newly back-filled graves. Mows, trims, and edges grass using push or riding type lawn mower, weed trimmer and edger.
Removes debris on cemetery grounds using rakes, blowers, and vacuums.
Removes snow and ice from roadways, walkways, and entrance ways by plowing, blowing, and shoveling and applying salt where applicable.
Operates hand tools and small equipment (e.g., shovels, picks, trimmers push mowers) and other larger cemetery equipment and vehicles including riding mowers, dump truck, backhoe, and loader.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand, follow and provide written and oral instructions.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
Ability to operate basic office equipment.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in oral, written, diagram and schedule form.
Ability to work in inclement weather for extended periods including wind, snow, ice, rain. Cold and hot temperatures.
Skill in the operation of basic hand tools, various power equipment, automobiles, and trucks.

The employee frequently is required to stand, sit, walk, and talk or hear.
The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
The employee is frequently exposed to loud noises, fumes, smells and exposed to all forms of inclement weather including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
