Description:
Now accepting applications for a unique teaching opportunity to develop and implement a multi-age, microschool annex of Discovery Academy in Big Sky, MT. A willingness to live in Big Sky preferred.
Plan and implement a student-centered program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. Other duties as assigned by Head of School.
Qualifications:
Must have a valid K-8 teaching certification or experience in the classroom, as well as hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. At least two years of prior elementary, multiple subject classroom teaching preferred. Our ideal candidates are energetic, self-motivated teachers who are child-centered and committed to both academic excellence and character development. Creativity and innovative ideas are embraced and encouraged. A candidate must be willing to collaborate with colleagues and communicate effectively with all members of the school community including families, students and staff. Additionally, a candidate must demonstrate flexibility to work within multi-age classrooms, to individualize curriculum for all students, to develop curriculum, to foster student engagement in their learning, and to embrace a place-based and project-based school environment. Experience in Nordic or alpine skiing and/or outdoor, experiential education preferred. Art or music teaching experience is exceptional.
Position requires a demonstrated ability to:
● Facilitate student learning across grade levels in a multi-age setting
● Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff
● Embrace an enquiry and project based learning perspective
● Target standards and rigor via lessons and assessment per grade level
● Use fall, winter, and spring assessment tools to adjust instruction per student.
● Monitor student progress with a variety of assessment tools and measures of success.
