POSITION SUMMARY:
Supports the center, teachers and customers by performing a variety of essential tasks that keeps our school running smoothly. On a day-to-day basis the primary responsibility of Support Staff is to rotate from classroom to classroom to help our Lead and Assistant teachers where needed. The second responsibility of Support Staff is to check-in with the school's administration to see where help is needed. Support Staff works to provide a quality experience to children and parents by facilitating classroom and center connectivity by filling in and supporting needs where necessary. Focuses on living the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Substitute teacher for classrooms ages 0-5.
Fills in for bathroom breaks, lunch breaks, nap time, etc.
Supports curriculum implementation within the established guidelines.
Be ready to adapt to various child behaviors and redirect children to focus on set activities. Use positive reinforcement and play as we direct child interactions.
Actively supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
Fulfills daily classroom duties, such as cleaning, supplies management, and parent communication, and maintains checklists.
Supports Lead and Assistant teachers in making ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.
Helps transition classes to another area (i.e. gym).
Makes copies and print-outs.
Resupplying classrooms and/or taking inventory of classroom supplies.
Maintains program site and equipment.
Gives tours of the center.
Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff professional development opportunities.
Assisting with any other tasks as they arise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum one-two years experience working with children preferred.
At least 16 years of age.
Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check
Infant/Child/Adult CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate
program activities.
Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
with people from different backgrounds.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities. As well as physically meet the demands of children on the go.
