The mission of the Level Sander is to prep all surfaces of the guitar for its final two coats of lacquer. They are responsible for levelling the original seven coats of lacquer using fine grit sandpaper. Level sanding requires a light touch and an eye for detail, as any defect in the lacquer that proceeds past this point will be magnified by additional coats. This position if a key element in process of producing an aesthetically pleasing end product.

The mission of a wet sander is to level the final coats of lacquer on a guitar in doing so remove any small blemishes and imperfections, as well as create an ideal surface that can be polished. The employee accomplishes this by sanding with progressively higher grits of sandpaper, starting with 800 grit and ending with 1000. Wet sand is a vital step in producing a product that can be buffed to a high finish, and helps create the uniquely beautiful guitars that Gibson is known for.

The purpose of Milling is to inspect, prep, and combine raw wood to provide the best single unit materials to the body assembly and neckline processes. Team members are required to have a great attention to detail and intimate knowledge of the types, and properties of wood. Milling is where a Gibson Guitar begins, and is a vital process in the creation of a guitar that is both beautiful and has that distinct Gibson Sound.

Hand Sanders are the last step in the back plant process of building a guitar. They are responsible for ensuring that moving forward the guitar has no gaps, dings, scratches, or chip outs, and that all areas are sanded to spec. Hand Sanders are intimately familiar with wood, including the types Gibson uses, how it reacts to heat, and moisture. This position is a critical step in creating an instrument that is both playable and aesthetically pleasing.

The purpose of a color prep machine operator is to close up exposed wood grain and gaps in order to create a perfectly smooth guitar to move into the color process. Color prep machine operator team members will become intimately familiar with model types and color schemes. The Fill process is a key aspect in creating the beautiful signature look of a Gibson Guitar.

The mission of kerfing is the application of wood to the inside of the guitars ribs to provide a greater surface area to glue the tops and backs to. The job of the kerfer is to adhere these strips in such a way as to allow a flush seal between the ribs and both top and back, and to do so with the minimal amount of excess glue inside. This is a critical step in the build process to ensure a guitar is both aesthetically pleasing, as well as sounds great.
