We are seeking one or more full-time (24 hours/day) caregivers for our 100 year-old mother, who still lives in the family home in Target Range, Missoula. This could be a live-in position for one person, or a couple of people could split five days. Perhaps one person would work two days and nights and another three days and nights. Family members have been providing live-in care for her for the past seven years. Depending upon what arrangements we could make, we will probably continue to provide for her care for two or three days a week.
She has had an amazing life â a farm girl from outside Scobey, she was a WAAC during WWII - and is still a remarkable woman. She is calm and doesnât need much personal interaction: her days are spent watching television such as the Waltonâs, Little House on the Prairie, Bonanza, Golden Girls, Hallmark movies, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, Marinerâs baseball, etc.
She needs assistance dressing. She mostly toilets herself â although she has occasional incontinence. She has trouble getting into bed. She has some short-term memory loss, so you will need the patience to tell her the same things repeatedly and give her prompts for things she knows how to do, but she is pretty strong and her health is good.
Your responsibilities will be: to assist her in dressing; to assist her with toileting as necessary; to help her get ready for bed, and getting into and out of bed. Right now, she is up once or twice in the night; other than helping her then, you would be able to sleep at night.
You will also be responsible for making sure she takes her medication (thyroid and a sleep aid) and supplements; for meal preparation and some shopping; general housekeeping; providing transportation several times a week using her car; watering the lawn and flowers in the summer; and feeding the cat and the birds. Mom has no serious health or medical issues, and doesnât need constant personal attention. Unlike home health agency and facility positions, you will have much of your time to yourself, to read, do crafts, watch the second television, etc.
As a live in position, we will provide free room and board, and cable tv and wireless Internet, as well as a monthly salary. For one person as a live-in, we are offering a salary of $2,000/ month plus the free room and board, etc. mentioned above. She lives in an older, comfortable ranch house in Target Range with a nice yard and large trees. If this position is shared between a couple of people, the pay would be negotiable. The Veteranâs Administration is providing some of the funding, and so a background check is required.
