About CRES MT
CRES MT is the designated Montana vendor for LexisNexis, providing accurate, timely civil court data from Justice and District Courts across the state. The information we collect serves multiple important public and private purposes—from helping creditors and landlords make informed, responsible decisions, to supporting public safety initiatives. Our data also contributes to systems such as the Amber Alert program, assisting authorities in locating missing or endangered children. We prioritize accuracy, reliability, and professionalism in all aspects of our work, maintaining strong working relationships with courts and court staff.
Job Description
The Public Record Data Collector is responsible for gathering information from new civil court records and updating previously collected records when they have been released, satisfied, vacated, or dismissed. This role primarily involves in-person visits to Justice and District Courts in Missoula, Lake, Ravalli, Silver Bow, Lincoln, Powell, Deer Lodge, Jefferson, and Broadwater counties. The position also includes some remote work using the Montana Full Court Enterprise public portal. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision. Applicants with any legal experience, familiarity with court documents, and/or comfort working within various clerk’s offices are highly preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
Collect new civil court filings during in-person court visits
Update previously collected records remotely by way of the Montana Full Court Enterprise Public Portal
Perform assigned audits accurately and on time
Enter and maintain data in CRES MT Excel records as well as LexisNexis systems
Communicate professionally with court staff when accessing public files and terminals
Follow all established collection procedures and timelines established by both LexisNexis and CRES MT
Time Commitment
Part-time position: 10 hours per week.
Collectors must be available for one full workday per week to complete an in-person court visit. The collector will be tasked with visiting at least one court per week on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, depending on the collector’s availability as well as the specific visiting requirements and restrictions of each individual court. Time spent driving is included in hourly compensation.
Compensation
This position is compensated as an independent contractor (1099) role.
$20/hour for remote work and local in-person collection.
Local collection refers to visiting a court within a reasonable driving distance from the collector’s home.
$25/hour for collection requiring travel of an hour or more.
Travel-required collection tasks are compensated at a higher rate to account for the additional time, effort, and contractor-incurred expenses.
Certification Course
All collectors are required to complete a LexisNexis and CRES MT–approved certification course before performing independent work. The course must be completed within 30 days and includes training on record-collection standards, update procedures, audit requirements, and confidentiality.
Although the course includes a formal test, CRES MT views it primarily as structured training and will provide as much reasonable support and guidance as needed to help applicants succeed.
A $150 certification completion payment will be issued with the collector’s first working-week paycheck.
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
