Pipe Layer / Heavy Equipment Operator

We have an immediate opening for a WORKING Pipe Layer/Heavy Equipment Operator. Candidates must have at least 3-5 years of experience installing water and sewer main line/services, storm drains. When necessary, you will also perform routine maintenance on the machines or recommend they be sent out for repairs. All employee's must follow company and governmental safety guidelines at all times. During the busy months there is ample ability for overtime and occasional work on Saturdays. We also occasionally travel out of town for projects but are home for the weekend.

Pipe Layer/Heavy Equipment Operator Duties and Responsibilities:

-Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains and pipelines. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement, glue or plastic welding.

-Install sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems

-Cut pipes to required lengths

-Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction

-Align and position pipes to prepare them for connection

-Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers, must be able to shoot grade

-Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue

-Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices

-Cover pipes with earth or other materials

-Grade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools

-Train others in pipe-laying techniques

Other General Labor and construction related duties as required.

Requirements:

-Must be able to follow building plans or blueprints and instructions from supervisors, lay out the job, and work efficiently with the materials and tools of their trade;

-Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (in excess of 50 lbs.);

-The ability to comprehend and follow specific instructions;

-Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, being dependable and cooperation.

-Ability to maintain and track all tools required to perform tasks.

-Good housekeeping skills.

Fully understand how to safely operate equipment

Inspect large equipment before and after use to ensure they are working properly

Communicate with dispatch and fellow employees as needed

Follow all safety procedures while operating equipment

Maintain detailed haul/loader logs

Detailed tracking and reporting of working hours and job locations

Adhere to company rules and regulations

Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs when necessary

Report needs for larger repairs to the appropriate parties

Make safety a priority at all times

3+ years of experience working with heavy equipment

Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards

Must pass a background check and drug test (these are done randomly throughout employment)

Self-starter who works well with others and independently, disciplined, dependable and resourceful, high level of composure and good stress management
