Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents.Under general direction, incumbents function independently at the advanced journey level performing technical work requiring knowledge of engineering theories, principles, concepts and practices in a specialized areaThis position is located within the Asphalt Lab in the Materials Division, Las Vegas. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment as a condition of continuing employment. Incumbent is responsible for logging, testing and reporting test results for contract samples including asphalt cement, emulsified asphalts, cutback asphalts and specialty products. Performs research testing to provide data to analyze and evaluate new materials and procedures. Performs AMRL testing to ensure specification compliance of equipment and procedures for lab accreditation. Trains and certifies field viscosity testing personnel for construction and maintenance; and performs equipment maintenance and calibration according to equipment specifications to ensure proper operation.
