We are seeking an experienced and dependable Part-Time Boat Captain to operate and manage a Steiger Craft 255 kept at Seaport Inlet Marina in Belmar, NJ. This hands-on role combines vessel operation, maintenance oversight, and support for regular close-to-shore fishing excursions.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and dock the Steiger Craft 255, including close-to-shore fishing trips (4 hours, 2 times per week during the season from May to November).
Assist and instruct the owner on docking and handling as needed.
Prepare for fishing trips by:
Procuring and managing bait.
Maintaining and organizing rods, reels, and tackle.
Attending to fishing guests onboard and supporting a smooth, enjoyable experience.
Manage the relationship with Seaport Inlet Marina, including boat slip coordination and dock services.
Oversee all aspects of boat maintenance, including routine servicing, cleaning, and safety equipment checks.
Ensure all operations comply with boating safety regulations.
Qualifications:
Proven experience operating and maintaining similar vessels.
Strong knowledge of local waters and fishing practices.
Comfortable interacting with guests and providing on-water hospitality.
Flexible availability, especially during fishing season (May–November).
Must hold all licenses or certifications required by New Jersey state law to legally operate a vessel of this size and type.
Compensation:
This is an hourly paid position.
Pay will be commensurate with market rates and candidate experience.
