Job Functions:Responsible for operating the Heart/Lung machine while safely maintaining patient cardiac output, tissue oxygenation, and hemodynamics during cardiopulmonary bypass.Administers medications and blood components through the extracorporeal circuit.Responsible for drawing blood samples from the extracorporeal circuit and making adjustments to maintain normal blood gas parameters.Maintains adequate anticoagulation during cardiopulmonary bypass.Initiates ECMO and monitors patients while on ECMO.Operates the cell saver.Operates the HIPEC machine and AngioVac circuit.Maintains quality controls for iStat and TEG as well as interpreting results.Works closely with the other members of the operating room team to provide the safest and best possible care to patients undergoing cardiac surgery.Build, maintain, prime and breakdown perfusion equipment, as needed.Assembles and monitors ventricular assist device.Other Tasks Which May be Required:Identify and lead quality improvement projects.Leads ECMO training programs and annual competency assessments for perfusion, nursing, providers and others within the hospital.Enters ECMO data in national registry.Mentor/training for new perfusion team members and students, where applicable.Inventory management.Participates in perfusion and other leadership meetings, as needed.Education/License/Certification - Required:Graduate of an accredited Perfusion programCertified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)New Jersey State Perfusion LicenseCertification in Basic Life Support (BLS)Experience:At least 2 years experience as a perfusionist preferredAble to work in a fast-paced environment along with having good communication skills
