Calling all nurses in driving distance of Fairfield, New Jersey, who are interested in doing part time or per diem home care nursing! Born with a form of muscular dystrophy, known as nemaline myopathy, I use a motorized wheelchair and a ventilator 24/7. In addition, I have a gtube for bolus feedings, but also eat small amounts of food by mouth (I love food!). While I have medical needs and need assistance with all activities of daily living, I live a very active life and never let my disability define me.
If you haven’t worked with a ventilator before, don’t worry! We’ll teach you whatever you need to know. It’s very easy to learn … if you can operate a cell phone, my vent is even easier!
I'm married and enjoy a career in communications. I like to keep everything as "normal" as possible with a family-oriented atmosphere. While I’m 38 years old (time flies), I’m only 4’10 and about 75 pounds. We’ll probably find a show that we watch and look forward to each week, and/or some movies.
On a more serious note, I rely on my nurses to keep me healthy so I can continue my active life. I'm a very healthy person and rarely get sick because of the excellent care I receive. I know every aspect of my care and will be happy to teach you my typical routine. My husband or my parents will be here to help as well until you’re completely comfortable.
My nurses are also my hands and legs. In essence, you are key to my independence. I truly appreciate my nurses and everything they do for me. I feel blessed to have a disability because I get to have these amazing people in my life.
If you are a kind person, with a sense of humor and a passion for caring for others, I would love to hear from you! Overnight, weekend, and some evening shifts are available. Take one shift, several shifts, or just occasionally fill in… it’s up to you!
