Construction Estimator Responsibilities & Duties
Conduct site visits and collect data to prepare cost estimates for various construction projects
Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other project materials to identify potential cost savings
Create detailed cost estimates using industry standard software and manual calculations
Provide cost estimates to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders for review and approval
Collaborate with project managers and other team members to ensure that cost estimates are accurate and comprehensive
Monitor construction progress and adjust cost estimates as necessary to account for changes in scope or cost.
Construction Estimator Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field
Previous experience in construction estimating
Proficiency in estimation software such as Bluebeam, ProEst, or PlanSwift
Strong understanding of construction methods and materials
Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Familiarity with local building codes and regulations
Certification from a recognized professional body, such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field
2+ years of experience in construction estimating
Strong understanding of construction practices, materials, and cost estimating techniques
Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Proficiency in using industry standard software such as PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, and Bluebeam Revu
Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
