Organization Summary
Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a discount home improvement, furniture, and household goods store operated by Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County. The ReStore inventory is comprised of mostly donated goods. The store is run by staff and volunteers. 100% of the profits from the sale of goods supports affordable housing construction in Bergen County.
Position Description
This ReStore Driver helper is responsible for the physical pick-up of merchandise from donors and adhering to all safety standards. The Driver Helper will work alongside the ReStore Driver/Donations Coordinator, assisting with the safe loading and unloading of donated items, and ensuring excellent customer service during interactions with donors and customers. The driver helper works Monday-Friday 9am-530pm (Saturdays as needed). The driver helper assists the Donations Coordinator to manage the quality of donations coming into the ReStore. The driver helper works in collaboration with ReStore staff to display goods in the store and help organize the sales floor.
Operational Responsibilities
Donations/Truck Ops
Help the ReStore Driver with picking up donations from residences and businesses, ensuring proper handling and transport of donated items.
Provide friendly, respectful, and professional service to all donors and customers during pickups and deliveries.
Assist in keeping the truck clean and organized, reporting any maintenance issues to the Driver or ReStore management.
Safely Load and unload donations from trucks.
Screen all items that are donated to make sure that they adhere to ReStore guidelines.
Ensure safe practices while using moving equipment.
Safely drive the ReStore truck and/or rental trucks.
Strap all items for transportation to ensure no merchandise is damaged.
Sales Floor
Ensure that all items are cleaned and repaired before they are sold on the floor.
Load furniture and other large items into customer vehicles.
Assist the sales floor coordinator by organizing the sales floor and discarding old inventory
Adhere to all ReStore, OSHA, and HFHI safety standards while working in the store.
Other duties as assigned by the ReStore Director.
Qualifications
HS Diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Access to personal transportation
Ability to pass a DOT medical physical
Ability to lift at least 50lbs on a regular basis.
Ability to sit, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to pass a lifting demonstration and technical skills test
Ability to drive a 16ft-26ft moving truck
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English required)
Excellent customer service skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates primarily on trucks, donor homes, and in retail/warehouse environment and can require operating equipment such as a forklift, power tools, hand tools, ladders, price guns, pallet jacks and other material handling equipment. Occasionally works in outside conditions that can include heat, humidity, cold weather and high noise levels.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be on their feet for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and carry, as well as pulling and reaching to obtain stock and/or acquire merchandise for sale. Position requires the ability to frequently lift products/supplies, up to 50 lbs.
