Metal manufacturer in Totowa is looking for an experienced MIG/TIG welder for a full time position.
Use welding skills to weld and assemble metal parts by using welding equipment. Sets up parts for welding, uses hand tools, clamps, jigs, and fixtures. Works from specifications, drawings, and weld symbols. Prepares and completes work on materials by welding, cutting, grinding, and cleaning metal.
Responsibilities:
● Perform welding tasks using various techniques such as MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
● Produce strong welds that are smooth, non-porous, and consistent.
● Follow required procedures and use appropriate jigs, fixtures, blueprints, and technical drawings to determine the appropriate welding process.
● Communicate effectively with other workers towards establishing goal-oriented objectives while maintaining high quality results.
● Maintain an ability to weld flat and vertical with good penetration and appearance.
● Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
● Grind or clean weld joint of work piece in preparation for additional weld or complete finish.
● Communicate with supervisor regarding issues associated with welding, as well as defects in any part(s).
● Position and clamp work pieces together according to and meeting all specified dimensions.
● Incorporate mathematics including fractions and angles into all aspects of work.
● Identify areas for process improvement, cost and waste reduction.
● Keep work area clean. This includes sweeping floors, emptying garbage containers, properly sorting and storing material.
● Parts must be labeled with Job # and quantity of parts (ex. 23717, 9pcs) and Inspection Log must be signed off on, dated, and quantity of parts written clearly.
● Follow safety procedures and adhere to welding codes and standards.
● Assist in the movement of material throughout the fabrication facility.
Non-essential Job Functions
● Assisting other department personnel as needed for duties such as lifting heavy sheets, helping on the paint line, etc.
● Any other duties as instructed by Welding Supervisor or Production Manager including but not limited to grinding, cleaning, etc.
● Operator should be able to sufficiently speak, read, and write ENGLISH with a legible penmanship.
● Experience with MIG and TIG welding and metal fabrication.
● Must regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and understand proper lifting techniques.
● Ability to communicate with supervisor clearly and consistently.
● Mathematical and mechanical aptitude including the use of a tape measure, vernier calipers, and a micrometer.
● Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and sketches, including reading and understanding industry standard welding symbols.
● Attention to detail and commitment to quality, with the ability to identify any defects by inspecting parts and comparing them to engineering drawings.
