Summary:
The Cook position is responsible for meal preparation of dinner, and to provide direction of breakfast and lunch meals. The Cook must be able to prepare main dinner meal that serve 150 individuals and will prep additional meals for weekends. The cook must follow health and safety regulations for all food preparation and storage.
Job Description
Responsible for planning, cooking and serving well-balanced and nutritious
meals every day for an emergency shelter and soup kitchen utilizing food supplies available.
Prepare three additional dinner meals during the week to be stored in the freezer. The meals should be properly prepared for freezing, labeled with contents and date prepared.
The Pantry is to be maintained – all items are to be organized and pantry cleaned
Assist with lunch preparation Monday through Friday – utilizing leftover dinner, donated prepared food, preparing sandwiches/soup, etc.
Ensure shelter clients stay out of the kitchen. Clients cannot volunteer to assist with any meal service or preparation.
Maintain inventories of food and other supplies required to operate a commercial kitchen and dining room.
Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding food safety and sanitary conditions.
Work with volunteers to assist in meal preparation and/or service.
Other duties as assigned by the Shelter Director.
Job Requirements
Food Service related training and/or work experience.
Completion and maintenance of all mandated licensing and training requirements.
Enjoys working with volunteers, community groups, and educational programs.
The ability to meet deadlines and manage tasks to successful completion.
Work 25 hours per week with some flexibility required to accommodate programming & volunteer needs.
