Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Commercial Generator Mechanic/Installer to join our team. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of commercial standby and portable generator systems. The ideal candidate has strong electrical and mechanical skills, experience with diesel and/or natural gas generators, and a commitment to safety and quality service.
Key Responsibilities:
Install commercial generators and related components (transfer switches, fuel systems, etc.) according to specifications and codes.
Diagnose and repair issues in electrical and mechanical generator systems, including engines, alternators, batteries, and control panels.
Perform preventative maintenance services and testing to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
Coordinate with customers, project managers, and electricians to ensure smooth installations.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and customer interactions.
Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies during field work.
Travel to job sites as required; overnight stays may be necessary for certain projects.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade school preferred.
Minimum 2-4 years of experience working with commercial generators (e.g., Generac, Cummins, Kohler, CAT).
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of electrical systems.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex systems under pressure.
Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, OSHA, and other applicable standards.
Basic computer skills for reporting and diagnostics.
Preferred Skills:
Certifications from generator manufacturers (e.g., Generac Level II, EGSA)
Experience with crane/lift equipment and installation tools
Background in HVAC, diesel technology, or electrical trades
Ability to operate load bank testing equipment
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
Capable of climbing, kneeling, and working in confined spaces
