Waste Water Treatment Operator

You will perform remediation system operation and maintenance (O&M) and environmental field sampling at industrial job sites located primarily in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Tools and work truck will be provided.

Your Key Responsibilities

Work under the supervision of a technical project manager to complete tasks associated with operation and maintenance of a variety of remediation systems including dual phase extraction, product skimming, hydrocarbon vapor removal, and bioremediation.

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot environmental remediation systems and their components including pumps, motors, plumbing, blowers, catalytic oxidizers/converters, air strippers, manifolds, and limited electrical troubleshooting such as control panels.

Collect samples of environmental media such as system effluent, surface water, groundwater, soil, and vapor for submission to independent laboratories for analysis.

Position requires strict adherence to health and safety procedures, attention to detail, good work ethic, communication, ability to prioritize tasks, and a passion for high quality workmanship.

Overnight, overtime, weekend work, and travel may be needed but is not routinely required.

Field work will include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be comfortable working outside daily

Qualifications

Good mechanical skills and an interest in maintaining mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical equipment associated with remediation systems and an understanding of how to follow a system process for proper equipment troubleshooting and problem solving.

Excellent note-taking skills and attention to detail.

Must be a self-starter and be capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Must also work well in a team environment.

Strong communication and organization skills.

Computer skills should include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work.

Working understanding of, and adherence to Health & Safety policies and procedures, including client-specific training (as needed and provided by Stantec).

Time spent on the job site will involve standing for long periods of time, kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to inclement weather, and may require the use of a respirator. Must be willing to be clean shaven as specified by client facility access requirements.

Must be able to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs on a continual basis.

Must be able to safely climb a ladder on a repeated basis.

A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC card), or the ability to procure a TWIC card, is required.

Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug screen. This position is also subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent, technical degree or certificate.

Experience working on equipment and machinery and experience using basic hand and power tools including experience with remediation system equipment (pumps, electrical systems, oil water separators, plumbing, etc.).

OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training and OSHA 30-hour Construction training are a plus, but not required. OSHA training will be provided as needed.

Experience/knowledge of hazardous materials and emergency response are desirable but not required.
